Mast base
From Wiki
The original mast bases - or more specifically, the mast rotation bars - had serious shortcomings. In addition to consisting of a number of loose parts (the rotation bars and accompanying tubes), if the user forgot to remove them before dropping the masts, the bars would be bent and/or holes punched in the tops of the amas.
The revised bases have hinged forward rotation bars permanently affixed. The lack of aft rotation bars is compensated for by the increased mechanical advantage gained from adding blocks to the rotation lines within the main beams as described in ECN04.
